How to Use an SEO MCP Server With Claude and ChatGPT (Draftly MCP Announcement)

Claude, ChatGPT, Grok, Cursor, OpenClaw and Hermes Agent connecting to Draftly, which publishes to WordPress, Shopify, Wix and Webflow

An SEO MCP server lets an AI assistant like Claude or ChatGPT pull live search data while you work: keyword volumes, Google’s first page, competitor rankings and backlinks. Draftly’s SEO MCP server adds one more thing. It gives your assistant your brand voice, your published posts and your topic pipeline, so the data lands next to everything it needs to write for your business.

This post covers what the server does, the 10 tools it gives your assistant, and how to connect it in about two minutes.

An SEO MCP server connects your assistant to live search data

MCP stands for Model Context Protocol. It is the open standard Claude, ChatGPT and Cursor use to call outside tools. An SEO MCP server is a set of those tools built for search work.

Without one, your assistant guesses. Ask it how many people search for “roof replacement cost” and it will give you a confident number with nothing behind it. With an SEO MCP server connected, it calls the tool, gets the current figure and tells you where it came from.

Most SEO MCP servers stop at the data. Draftly’s also knows how your brand writes, which posts you have already published and which topics are waiting in your pipeline. That combination is what turns a keyword list into a post you can publish.

The 10 tools Draftly’s SEO MCP gives your assistant

Every tool reads data. None of them change your account, publish anything or spend your writing credits. Your assistant decides when to call each one based on what you ask.

The full tool list, as shown on the Draftly MCP page.

On every paid plan:

  • get_brand_context: your brand voice, tone sliders, audience, vocabulary and writing samples for each website.
  • list_posts: your recent Draftly posts with status, word count, SEO score and human-voice score.
  • get_post: one post in full, with body, meta title, meta description, slug and keywords.
  • find_topics: your topic pipeline, suggested topics and newsroom articles ranked by how well they fit your brand.
  • research_keyword: search volume, difficulty, intent, cost per click, a 12-month trend and related keywords.

Added on Growth:

  • get_serp: Google’s live first page for a query, plus People Also Ask questions, related searches and SERP features.
  • get_domain_overview: organic keyword counts by ranking position and estimated traffic for any domain.
  • get_competitors: the domains competing with a site for the same keywords.

Added on Autopilot:

  • get_keyword_gap: keywords a competitor ranks for that your site does not.
  • get_backlinks_summary: backlinks, referring domains, domain rank and spam score for any domain.

What it looks like in a real conversation

Here is a request a bakery owner might type into Claude with Draftly connected:

Four example prompts to try with Draftly's SEO MCP server in Claude or ChatGPT
More prompts to try once Draftly is connected.

“Check my Draftly brand voice, find a topic in my pipeline about wedding cakes, research the best keyword for it and outline a post that answers the questions people ask on Google.”

Claude calls get_brand_context, then find_topics, then research_keyword on two or three candidate phrases. On Growth it also calls get_serp to read the People Also Ask questions. You see each call as it happens, and the outline that comes back is built on real numbers and your own voice settings.

A few other requests that work well:

  • “Which of my last 10 Draftly posts has the lowest human-voice score, and what would you change in it?”
  • “Compare my domain with my top competitor and list five keywords they rank for that I don’t.” (Autopilot)
  • “Is ’emergency plumber near me’ or ’24 hour plumber’ the better keyword for my next post?”
